The most common cause for which patients come to the dentist is represented by caries related lesions (dental caries). During the consultation, the location and severity of the decay will be determined and dental x-rays will be performed, if necessary.
Caries can come in various forms, from the incipient cavities visible on the occlusal face of the teeth, to the proximal cavities, located between the teeth, which the patient often does not see, and which can be in various stages of evolution. Also, there may be cavities of the front teeth involving a different number of surfaces, and cervical cavities located near the gum.
The most commonly used materials for filling cavities are composite materials, they can imitate the colour of the tooth while being very resistant. Composite fillings are methods that restore the natural relief of the teeth for optimal functionality, used in both the frontal and lateral areas. Dental fillings (inlay or onlay) are made in the dental laboratory and represent the ideal treatment option for large cavities in the lateral area. The filling is formed in relief and the final piece will be fixed adhesively.
The most effective way to treat tooth decay remains prevention. Preventing tooth decay is done by: brushing your teeth after every meal or at least twice a day; the use of dental floss and mouthwash; avoiding the consumption of excess sweets, possibly brushing the teeth immediately after consuming them; regular consumption of fruits and dairy products; regular visits to the dentist.
